CBM 46 TWO-HAND MANUAL CONTROL MODULE

Compliant with current regulations

Purpose

The CBM 46 two-hand manual control module connected to specific control buttons protects the operator’s hands from injuries. In all risky situations, the operator’s hands are kept away from the hazardous areas. If a failure concerns either part of these protection devices or the safety related control system:
• accidental start-up must not be possible
• safe operation of the protection device must be ensured
• it must be possible to stop the machine during the hazardous movement
• the control system must immediately stop the machine during hazardous closing strokes and at the end of the operating cycle at the latest in other cases
• the control system must prevent all production cycle start-ups until the fault has been repaired.

Operation

Two connected buttons (“two-hands” control) must be pressed in a time equal to T < 0.5 s to operate a hazardous movement. The control will be cancelled if either button is released during the hazardous movement. The hazardous movement can only continue after the two buttons return to their original positions and are operated again.

Condition / settings

According to accident protection regulations related to motor driven working tools (e.g. presses), a safety control complying with standards ZH 1/456 and ZH 1/457 is required to use a two-hand manual control module. The connected control buttons must be designed and fitted so as to prevent accidental operation or easy deactivation.
The safety distance between the buttons and the hazardous area must ensure that the hazardous area is not reached before the hazardous movement is stopped or completed also if only one button is pressed. The safety distance S is computed according to the press velocity V > 1.6 m/s and stopping time T, which results from the formula S > VT.

Inspections

CBM 46 modules must be regularly inspected at least once a year by an expert. The inspection must be carried out on all components. The results must be written in a report, which is signed by the inspector and kept by the user.
